So here’s the thing. The financial situation has not been very good of late and the writing isn’t really bringing in any income at the moment. A lot of my time has been taken up doing some temp work in an office basically just helping out with some office stuff I guess. On top of that I have been helping out taking over as some tuition classes for the time being.
And here I am trying something new. I’m not actually writing any of this. This laptop of of mine has had a dictation function for some time that only now I’m trying out. I guess it has quite a bit to learn about the way I am speaking in order to translate what I see into words on screen. For one working the punctuations, has been quite interesting. The Mac has had this function mainly as an aid to help people with disabilities and it’s something I never really considered using for quite awhile or at all.
That appear to be a series of response that it can recognise in order to complete sentences easily. And it seems that if I speak a little more fluidly it is able to construct the sentences A little more completely. Although if I have a more hesitant style of speaking where starting and stopping is concerned it struggles a bit more in trying to understand a sentence that I’m trying to get out, then I have to either repeat myself or go back and physically edit. So, perhaps this might actually be an easy way to write but I think will take awhile for the computer to learn my speech patterns and try and understand exactly what I want to have written down.
It’s also quite interesting to see what it tries to write down when I do other things like laughing or coughing.
In the meantime, I’m still trying to find mistakes in the Syndi-Jean Journal after another typo was pointed out to me. So it’s another round of editing being done but this time I’m having the computer read it out to me while I read along using a speech function. I guess it helps having to hear it spoken out loud and in a way it helps with hearing the sentence structure. Of course, you have to make do with the artificial voice that the computer uses.
I have to wonder if this is actually going to be a viable option celebrating it may help the expert put my pots from a little quicker back and forth have to depend on whether the computer can understand what I am saying from time to time. And of course I would have to work on my enunciation. Of course it might help in terms of my speaking getting me to speak a little more properly just so that the computer can understand what I am saying. Watching the words come up on screen with all its glorious mistakes makes me realise that perhaps my speaking isn’t really all that good. Definitely need to work at it. I wonder if I can write the whole book this way.
Then again, this just make the novelty thing, something that takes my fancy you for awhile and then I’ll just pass over it later. I am still a little old-fashioned. Preferring pencil and pen and paper compared to a mouse just to draw an image, and there is still something classic about writing things out with a pen and paper. And in terms of writing I suppose, pounding on the keyboard Will still be preferable to speaking things out like this. But it is just another tool and maybe it might be useful some day. After all, when all this is said and done, I’ll still have to copy it over to the site to have it posted.
Just so you know how problematic this thing is, here’s a nursery rhyme that you should know and I’m not going to edit anything that I have been doing before. My guess is that the computer actually knows this right and it’s going to type it correctly anyway-
Hey diddle diddle,
The cat and the fiddle:
The cow jumped over the moon.
Removal blog last to see such fun,
And the dish ran away with this pool.
Taffy was a Welshman,
Cathy was a piece;
Jesse came to my house,
Install the piece of beef.,
I went to Cathy’s house, fine
Cassie what about home;
Cathy came to my house,
Install them at the mall.
I went to Turkey home,
Cathy what’s not in;
Cassie came to my house,
Install the silver team.
I went to Cathy’s house,
Cathy was in bed;
I took up the poker,
And threw it at his head.
*note: I did a bit of correction within the main body of the text above, but left the rhymes alone. You have to speak out the punctuations and orders to create lines or paragraphs… It’s interesting how Taffy became Cassie, or Cathy, or even Turkey.
